Easy Packing Tips for Fragile Items

Moving can prove to be a tragedy if you have discovered one of your favorite antique items broken after opening the box. As a matter of fact, every breakable is unfortunately enough expensive to eat considerable amount of your earnings while you buy it. Hence, the breaking of these kinds of items is surely heartbreaking too.

Below mentioned are some easy tips that would help in packing your costly breakables in a way that their integrity and best shape remains intact.

Start packing ahead of time
Packing breakables is not something that you can do in haste. The only way you can ensure the safety of these expensive items is to start packing them while you have considerable amount of time left in moving. With time in your hand, you will be able to secure your items in every way possible.

Get appropriate supplies
Getting strong and sturdy boxes is the foremost requirement. After that, ensure that you have complete set of packaging supplies such as bubble wrap, packing paper, cardboard (for sectioning inside the boxes), packing tape and scissors. Make sure that you do the packing of these items on a large table where you can spread the items for easier picking.

Fragile items to be packed
Packing of each type of fragile items needs to be done differently. Some of the most fragile items along with their packing procedures are mentioned as under.
  • Plates should be packed in the form of a vertical stack. Moreover, the boxes used for packing of plates should be of small to medium sizes. The best practice is to pack every plate individually in a bubble wrap and then secured with the tape. Do not stuff too many plates in the boxes.
  • Packing paper should be used to secure the glasses in the box. Furthermore, crumpled paper is recommended to fill the void. Small or medium sized boxes are appropriate for the packaging of glasses. The heavy items should be placed in the bottom and lighter ones on the top.
  • Lamp shades are highly fragile so they should be cushioned appropriately with a lot of paper. Make sure that possible impact of one lamp shade with another in a box is absolutely avoided.
  • The picture frames should be stacked in medium sized boxes. Every picture frame should be separated from the one at upper and lower side by crumpled paper. Large cardboard pieces can also be used for separating purposes but cushioning needs to be ensured.

Specify the boxes with fragile items
Boxes, containing the breakable items, should be labeled ‘Fragile’. This labeling acts as an instruction not only for the family members but also for the moving service personnel.

One more worth mentioning thing is that the use of towels and other fabrics for the cushioning of most of these items is really not the wise idea. So, always go for standard cushioning materials.
